Therapist, counsellor, social worker

Hello,
I'm Tania

.

she/her

I'm so happy you're here!

I'm Tania Wellby, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker - BA/BSW, MScMed (Psychosexual Therapy), - and the creator of Yes Therapy. I bring over 12 years' experience as a therapist across sexual and reproductive health, community mental health, disability services and education. I'm grateful my work has allowed me to support adolescents, adults, couples and families through a wide range of life experiences - from relationship and identity challenges to trauma, health concerns and major life transitions.

At the heart of my work is a strength-based, person-centred approach. I pay close attention to each person’s needs, desires, strengths and values, and use these as the foundation for therapy. I see my role as empowering people to make informed decisions about their sexual health, relationships and overall wellbeing – supporting people to feel confident, capable and in control of their own choices.

Equally central to my work is the belief that healthy relationships are vital to wellbeing. This includes relationships with oneself, with others and the connection formed in therapy. Secure and respectful relationships can foster resilience, self-worth and a sense of belonging, while disconnection or conflict can significantly affect emotional and physical health. By creating a warm, inclusive and trusting therapeutic relationship, we can explore intimacy, communication, desire, identity and emotional patterns in a way that supports deeper connection and personal growth.

My practice is grounded in attachment-focused theory and draws on a range of evidence-based modalities, including Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Yes Therapy is a safe space where sex, bodies and relationships are respected and celebrated for their diversity. I work to challenge outdated, rigid and heteronormative models of healthcare that have historically shaped societal messages about sexuality and gender – messages that too often create stigma, shame and barriers to open discussion. Yes Therapy stands for the right we all have to experience acceptance, possibility and connection in our sexual lives.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I work and live. I pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
